The City Hall of Vitoria-Gasteiz finally authorizes the camping in favor of the right to housing, but in the supports
- Although at first the protest has been banned, the City Hall of Vitoria-Gasteiz has finally decided to leave the organization of a camp on the stands, according to Hala Bedi. It is a protest to denounce the situation of those who do not have access to housing, scheduled from Friday to Saturday.
The Vitoria-Gasteiz Social Law Platform and the Ongi Etorri Errefuxiatuak Araba group held an open assembly on 2 April to sign the manifesto No-home and no one. In addition, they undertook to start short-term mobilizations and the first call has come.
On May 10, from 20:30 a.m., a camp will be held in Plaza Nueva until 11:00 the following day. The initiative, which has as its motto In Vitoria-Gasteiz nobody in kalegorri, has the support of social partners and trade unions: Salhaketa, PDS, Stop Evictions Araba, OEE Araba, Argilan-ESK, Elkartzen Old Party, CEAR Euskadi, ADRA Foundation, ASVE, Errekaleor Bizirik!, ELA, LAB, ESK and STEILAS.
The social and social movements that signed the manifesto wish to convey to Alavesa society, and in particular to the Vitorians their concern about evictions. “In our territory there are many people who are forced to sleep in the street because they lack housing or lack the necessary shelter to sleep and be able to lead a dignified life.”
They have reported that these people do not receive the care they need. “Speculators, vulture funds, banks and public institutions treat housing as a business and actively collaborate so that the right to housing is not a right for all.”
In the manifesto they denounce the increase of housing and all forms of speculation, especially those related to rented housing: “Disproportionate prices and unfair and discriminatory clauses. We are also concerned about the increase in cases of eviction of people with few resources and in need.”
At the same level, they have recalled the difficulties faced by people seeking a home or a room, “especially because of their race or origin or because they have children in charge”.
