The project to create a private university linked to sport and health in Vitoria-Gasteiz, which would have the same offer of UPV/EHU degree studies, called Euneiz, has provided an opportunity to improve and expand other infrastructures and facilities to the business group Josean Kerejeta, owner of the clubs Saski Baskonia and Deportivo Alavés, presented through the next European project.

The Diario.es has had access to this project and according to what it sets in it, the business group wants to expand the sports area Ibaia and the Buesa Arena and reform the Sports City Baskonia. In addition, "intends to create an American college and a residence talent house that will allow it to sign for scholarships to attract foreign athletes," said journalist Iker Rioja.

The former PNV member of the Hacienda de Álava, José Luis Cimiano, is at the forefront of the operation, according to this medium, which is presented as "responsible" for the project.

The project, called Innovaraba Araba Gasteiz Sport Capital, has a budget of 64 million euros, of which only 50% would come from private developers. The Euneiz university itself would be one of the project's legs (EUR 12.5 million), but "part of the wrong premise", says Rioja. In fact, the memory assumes that the university will be in operation during the course of 2021/2022, although it has not yet had the authorization of the Basque Parliament for its creation.

The residency would cost EUR 15.5 million; the research and rehabilitation center of health and sports medicine, 2.5 million – a pavilion attached to the Sports City Baskonia- would have direct access, in addition to the students, professional athletes of this private club; and the American center of foreign athletes has a budget of EUR 2 million.

The most expensive part of the project, which accounts for one third of the total budget, is the reform and expansion of existing facilities: At the university, four small football fields and another larger football field; four basketball courts under the old dome of the Baskonia stadium and the expansion of the infrastructures of the Sports City Baskonia, which say that there may be a lot of "sports tourists". Finally, 70,000 square meters have been acquired in the sports area of Ibaia – the training site of the Alavés- for the construction of eight more football fields.

Does that benefit local groups? The journalist asked. No, the facilities will be destined "to a large number of foreign teams that will come to perform their pre-seasons or the stages of the season, as well as to organize international competitions", the report states.

Baskonia-Alavés, in presenting the project called Innovaraba, said that it would create 750 jobs, but that has already put in place institutions and trade unions.
