Investigating the death of a prisoner in Basauri prison
- They investigate the death of a prisoner suspected of suicide in Basauri prison. This is the first case of this kind, since the Basque Government took over prison management.
Eldiario.es reports that the preventative prisoner who was incarcerated last Friday has been found dead this Monday in his cell. Since 2021, the Government has been responsible for the management of the three prisons of the CAPV.
A broad representation of the Department of Equality, Justice and Social Policies has held an extraordinary meeting with the parties of the Basque Parliament to publicise the case information and the protocols put in place. Both the Prison Inspectorate and the judiciary are beginning to investigate what has happened.
