Travel with the Barik card will take place from January in Bilbobus, Bizkaibus and Metro. The Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia have decided that users who do not personalise their card will lose the 50% discounts so far, so they must have a minimum number of trips. In case of non-customisation, discounts will only be applied on bonds of 50 and 70 trips. Among the unregistered youth in Bizkaia, the change has generated concern about the lack of discounts.
The solar environmental organization is opposed to the decision. Its members have described the change as an “additional burden” for the working class, as well as for environmentalism: “This measure goes against the ecological transition, which is going to restrict the use of public transport, and it is particularly serious because this same month we learned that the Council wants to spend EUR 450 million on the Submarine Highway.” They accuse the Deputy of not having money for public transport, but there are always resources to build new highways: “The pharaonic works for the enrichment of construction companies are never lacking xoxis”.
Concentration against growth
Members of different social, trade union and environmental actors will meet on Tuesday at Metro Bilbao headquarters to request the suspension of the new measure. Anyone who objects to the matter is called.
