Denounce the "excessive" and "racist" intervention of agents in Barakaldo
- After shooting several citizens with a firearm, two people were wounded, one of them serious, on 21 March in Barakaldo. The 77 associations have criticised police intervention and called for a thorough investigation.
“Instead of reducing tension with people who have no choice but to sleep on the streets, the intensity increases until they are put at risk. We have been warning for some time that confronting the increase in the number of people on the street and its consequences in a police way will never bring us closer to solving such a complex and multifactorial problem, but will aggravate it”. This is stated in the declaration signed by 77 associations and 250 individuals.
They have condemned the “racist, unbridled and extremely violent” police intervention and have called for an in-depth investigation “because society cannot accept a preventive action ending up throwing”. They call on political leaders to stop providing assistance to these police actions. They also seek coordinated and effective strategies to address the situation of those living on the street.
Finally, they have shown their solidarity and support for those affected, their families and relatives.
Most of those who have made the declaration are back from institutions that support citizens living on the street. These include Bigite, Martin Etxea, Mundubat, Periko Solabarria, Ongi Etorri Refugees, Argitan, Berpiztu, Harrera Sestao, La Posada de Los Abros, Barakaldo with the Sahara, Berri-Otxoak and Kolore.
