Ban a 'Ball of Diables' in Catalonia for refusing to participate
- The City Hall of El Vendrell of Catalunya will not allow the exit of the Ball of Diables of L’Arboçe for not admitting women as a group.
The City Hall shall not invite or allow the invitation to the other groups of the municipality. Women cannot participate in the Ball de Diables group of L’Arboç, so they have been qualified as machistas.
The ban was adopted with the votes in favour of Som Poble, Yes Se Can, PxC, Citizens and ERC, pp voted against and PSC and PDeCat abstained. The motion is contrary to L’Arboçe’s Diables Ball, but it is also contrary to cultural entities fighting freedom of gender, race or people.
The parties that supported the motion denounce that there are cultural groups that practise sexual discrimination and receive financial aid from the administrations.
