On Saturday, a man was arrested in Bayonne on charges of raping a woman at the Xingar Fair. He was arrested after the Prosecutor ' s Office opened an investigation and has been in custody since then.

On Monday, Itaia of the Northern Basque Country held a rally to denounce the violation. The Northern Basque Country Feminist Movement joins this call.

They unite in front of the Bayonne People’s House to denounce sexual assault and put on the table the responsibility and hypocrisy of the people’s house in the attacks. They also denounce the "positive balance" of the neighborhood around the festivities and point out that it differentiates the party itself from what happens at the party "as if there were no rapes, touches, insults or deaths," according to the News.

Criticism of the party model

As was done at the beginning of the Xingar Fair, Itaia denounces that this type of macro-fiestas exacerbate the violence suffered by women: "This macro-party model, combined with the recent reactionary aggression, creates an ideal playing field to make women even more vulnerable and amplify the macho violence we are already experiencing."

By the same token, he claims that macro-parties are not "safe places" and denounces that they create a situation that "constantly oppresses their wives and makes them become sexual objects". Finally, Itaia said: “We have a mission to organize ourselves collectively outside of today’s institutions, because these places are the tools to guarantee the capitalist reality we live in, the macho violence and the mechanisms of oppression.”
