The workers of the Azkuna Zentroa Media Library have agreed to an indefinite strike. In fact, the workers who work at Mediateka through subcontracted companies have been in a situation of real job insecurity for more than 6 years.
The ELA union denounces that the origin of this situation of labor exploitation is a public tender. It has been clarified that the procedure followed by the administration when bidding for services results in a sharp decline in wages until they reach the threshold of real labour exploitation. The ELA union itself has filed collective action lawsuits demanding the application of the Bizkaia Social Intervention Convention, but they are still awaiting trial. The employees have said that they have this agreement.
There are about 20 employees doing this work. The union calls for the immediate establishment of the bases to solve this situation of precariousness of those who work in the Azkuna Zentroa Media Library: "on the one hand, these workers need stability and, on the other, because the specifications for the next tender have to be prepared in the coming days. But for the moment, the Azkuna Zentroa Management has not shown its willingness to resolve the situation."
Thus, the workers of the subcontracted companies of the Media Library have called for an indefinite strike for the stability of their jobs and the improvement of their working conditions. The strike begins tomorrow, May 30. The workers ask the users of the Media Library to forgive the inconveniences that the strike can cause.
