The Attorney General’s Office of the Mexican Republic (FGR) reported last Tuesday that the remains of Christian Alfonso Rodríguez, who was killed in 1989, have been identified. This is one of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa, who has been arrested. This finding puts the case upside down, which calls into question the official version of the previous government and opens "the path to knowledge of the truth", according to the Public Journal.
The head of the FGR unit investigating the Ayotzinapa case, Omar Gómez Trejo, stated that the University of Innsbruck (Austria) genetically identified this student through residues found in the municipality of Cocula. Debris has been found far from the landfill where it is believed that the bodies of the students were burned. In addition, an Argentine team specialized in forensic anthropology also took care of the analysis of the remains, the results of which coincided with one of the members of the young man.
Gómez Trejo explained that, after knowing the whereabouts of the students and checking their truthfulness, from November 21 to 29, 2019 began the search in the municipality of Cocula, in the state of Guerrero, known as Barranca de la Carnicería. "This place is not a landfill of Cocula, but is more than 800 meters from where the Government of Barranca has told it," said Gómez Trejo. This is a "known" place in advance, although the previous authorities did not exhaust all the lines of research on the ground.
The current research has recovered 15 indications that were initially analyzed by FGR experts and family members. Gómez Trejo explained that several of the remains were transferred to the Institute of Genetics of the University of Innsbruck and that the results were delivered to them on June 19. "After examining the sent bones, one of them is the student Christian Alfonso Rodríguez Telumbre, a young man who disappeared on September 26, 2014," said the official.
Just a week ago, the FGR issued an arrest warrant against 46 policemen in the southern state of Guerrero for their alleged involvement in the disappearance of 43 students from Ayotzinapa. The operation is part of a new phase of the investigation, which aims to put an end to the official version of the past coalition government.
According to the official version of the then president of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, on the night of September 26, 2014, 43 young people were arrested and handed over to members of the paramilitary group Guerrero Unidos, killed and supposedly incinerated in a landfill.
In June 2019, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) established a special autonomous unit under the direction of Omar Gómez Trejo. This human rights defender, with experience in the case, was supported by relatives of the victims.
