National High Court Condemns Marixol Iparragirre to 39 Years
- The National High Court has sentenced Marixol Iparragirre to 39 years in prison, who was charged with a murder in 1985. This is the third penalty imposed on him so far this year, and the other two are 122 and 61 years.
The criminal chamber of the National Court has sentenced Basque dam Marixol Iparragirre to 39 years in prison. He is accused of having participated in the 1985 murder of the Amurrio (Álava) postman Estanislao Galíndez, who was convicted of belonging to the Araba command of ETA and murder in 1989. In the same case, there are two other persons convicted: Juan Carlos Arruti and Josetxo Arizkuren.
The court finds that it has sufficient evidence to convict Iparragirre, including the testimony of an ETA member who has recognised, according to the judgment, that he received the three ETA members at his home. The court has also approved fingerprints of the car used to commit the attack, ballistics tests and the report of the Spanish intelligence services to condemn Iparragirre.
Iparragirre has been given two new sanctions this year. The National High Court confirmed in February the Supreme Court's 122 years of imprisonment for the 1995 murder of Spanish Army Commander Luciano Cortizo. In March, the National High Court sentenced him to 61 years in prison for ordering two attacks in 1994 and 1995, in which two people died.
