El Correo interviewed Iker, a 33-year-old resident of Irala, Bilbao, while he was at the Basurto Hospital. He recounts what happened during the eviction of Etxarri II and denounces the aggressive attitude of the Basque Government.
Iker says he was hit by a projectile during one of the Basque Country's raids: "I was close to more neighbors, including older people, as a sign of support, peacefully and without participating in the riots, when a gunman pointed me directly at me." “I live right next door,” he continues. It's true that I know young people who went to the youth center, but I was just next to a friend's mother when they started shooting."
Iker says he did it "specifically": "He shot me while he was looking at me face to face, less than 30 meters away, pointing at the bad and the eggs, but I don't know who he is, it will be impossible to know," he laments. He also recounts the moment when he received the impact of the projectile: "I fell on my knees to the ground and was able to walk a little to get away from it, fearing that I would even be arrested for not doing anything." He reports that a friend accompanied him to his house where he took an "ibuprofen" and put ice on it. He said the situation was bad: "It became more and more exaggerated and I couldn't get any more pain at three o'clock in the morning, so I had to come to the emergency room."
He underwent surgery four hours after the emergency: "They took a testicle from me. I hope to save the other," he confessed desperately. When he is allowed to leave the hospital – he does not know when he will be discharged – he informs that he will file a complaint with the Basque Government and he is sure that: "I don't know what to do, but I'm going to the police station." However, he said hopelessly: "The worst part is that it won't do any good, because you have to report the agent and he's going to hide among them."
On Friday the Youth Center II was evacuated
A new urban project is planned in Errealde, in the district where the Cukutza III youth centre in Bilbao was located. As a result of the project approved by the construction company Amenabar and the City Council of Bilbao, the evacuation of the youth center was ordered on April 4. To denounce this, several members of the youth assembly suspended the Plenary of Bilbao, to which more than 55 groups have joined in solidarity.
Although the evacuation was scheduled for Friday, the operation was launched on Thursday afternoon. The group of young people defending the youth centre was expelled around 10 a.m. and the members who had been inside were identified. They demonstrated in solidarity and rushed to the youth center. Then the protesters built the barricades.
Xabier Letona of LA LUZ received the figures of the injured and the arrested: "The Anti-Fascist Network reports that the police wounded six people. According to the Gedar portal, one of them has had to undergo an emergency cut. According to the revelary, there were also five detainees and four of them have already been released. “Four people were also injured in the riots.”
