Monday premieres at the international documentary festival ‘918 nights’ of Arantza Santesteban DOC Lisboa
- Santesteban was arrested by the Police in 2007 in the Segura raid against those responsible for the illegal Batasuna and remained in prison for 918 days. In his work, Santesteban wants to reflect the daily life of the prison.
The international documentary festival DOC Lisbon was launched on 21 October and will be closed on 31 October. Santesteban's documentary will compete in the official section of the international section, along with 13 other works from twelve different countries. The premiere will be on Monday at 22:00, and on Tuesday at 15:30 a.m. there will be a second performance.
Day to day in prison
Santesteban remained in prison for almost three years after being arrested in the Segura raid in 2007, where he was arrested by the police. From this experience, the author focuses his view on the daily life of the prison in the documentary 918 nights. With these words he explained his work in a written synopsis for Tabakalera: “There are a lot of cinematic narratives about jail, but I think there’s always something missing. These images do not reflect everyday prison conditions, but the ways our social imaginary uses about prison (...) the passage of time, isolation to the outside world, the physical and psychological consequences of closure, the opaque spaces of domination... This film is about these issues.”
