The young Vitorian, Iker Gómez, began the oral trial on Wednesday for an offence of insults against the Foral Police in Vitoria-Gasteiz. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has asked against a fine of EUR 20 per day for a total of 16 months, EUR 9,700.
The Gasteiztarra user @ikerbest received a citation last October in his Twitter account. There, he learned that he had been quoted to testify at the Provincial Court of Álava for several statements made on the Facebook social network. The young man himself explained to Hala Bedi that the complaint filed by the Prosecutor’s Office included “hate crimes” and “an attack on religious sentiment”.
The tweets that refer to the complaints against the youth are messages related to the movement "ALDE Hemendik", which defends the departure of the police forces of the Spanish State of Euskal Herria or the freedom of the young people of Altsasu. He has also been charged for crimes against police charges in the referendum held in Catalonia on 1 October 2017.
Gómez himself, who has already denounced the case on Twitter, had a great impact on the social network Twitter. That is why the BGD Abogados group agreed that the case of the young man of Vitoria-Gasteiz should be carried out entirely free of charge. These are the same lawyers who brought the case of Cassandra Vera, one of the first people to have been tried and convicted by the Spanish National Court for writing jokes about Carrero Blanco following the judgment of the Supreme Court that annulled the conviction.
