This year he has also been a champion. 46% of the complaints registered at the SOS Racism office in Bizkaia point to the police forces operating in the territory. According to the organization's report, these figures are collected by "the experience" of people who have suffered discrimination due to violence, aggression, racist and xenophobic causes. In this work, Sos Racism presented the balance of 2023: 569 complaints across the Spanish state, less than in 2022, but more than in 2021.
Of the 215 cases of institutional racism, more than 80 per cent are police racism. Among these cases is the assault by a police officer on a woman named Silvia in Getxo, who has been arrested. The sentence sentenced the officer to six months in prison for "ill-treatment", thanks to the admission of the Istanbul protocol to trial and forensic medical reports demonstrating physical and psychological injuries. The Basque Government, however, requested the annulment of the trial of the ertzaina for the disappearance of recordings in which mistreatment was observed.
According to the report presented in Zirika!, in Bilbao, 83% of the cases concern the State Security Forces and Bodies. On the other hand, two out of ten cases point to public institutions. "Police abuse is disturbingly present in our society. Behind each of these titles are the stories of people who have denounced injustices, humiliations and discrimination", read in the state-level report by Elena Stasi Croitor.
According to data from Bizkaia, individual racist violence accounts for 14%, while those related to neighborhood racism account for 11% and those related to similar work. 6% refer to real estate racism and 6% to private security. Attacks in the school environment account for 3%, the same figure as Islamophobia.
More than figures
The report is not intended to be a mere compilation of figures, but to reflect on racism and institutional racism on a daily basis. Behind the numbers, he wants to show repair cases that require repair. To this end, according to Sos Racism, there are different situations in which different victims of racist and xenophobic violence have experienced situations in which psychological and physical damage occurs. A woman of Cuban origin lives yours as follows: "You internalize that you're rubbish and psychologically sunk (...) So they psychologically destroy you."
SOS Racism Bizkaia bears as a flag the following phrase from Ángela Davis: "In a racist society, it's not enough to not be racist, you have to be anti-racist." With this attitude, the organization seeks accomplices to stop any racist and xenophobic aggression, educating and acting, questioning and challenging many situations, in a process of lifelong learning.

If you get it right, a gesture is probably more effective than a word. How many times have we said and canceled that a thousand words are worth more than an image. Forgive, it's the other way around. It's not how much each one is worth, it's why. Words for those who want to twist... [+]
