There seems to be no turning back to the military ascent that has uninterruptedly escalated in Europe over the last year. As far as the West is concerned, among other things, the oligarchy is rearming political-military apparatus, especially the so-called North Atlantic Treaty Organization, known as NATO. The Member States are constantly increasing military investment and spending on war forces, as the latest budgets of the Spanish and French States show.
Public institutions have been financing, directly or indirectly, war for decades. Directly, for example, by strengthening budgets for "defence" and indirectly, inter alia, by financing and boosting various armoury companies. In the case of the Basque Government, it stopped providing money to companies producing "short arms" in the 1990s, but focused on aeronautical companies, such as the launch of ITP Aero and Aernnova, formerly Gamesa. It also promoted a comprehensive network of subcontractors that would strengthen the sector.
Today, weapons continue to be produced by several companies based in the Basque Country, hundreds of Basque businesses directly related to the arms industry. Companies such as ITP Aero, Aernnova, Orbitales Critical Systems or SAPA are known to participate in the production of weapons. ITP Aero, Aernnova and Orbital Critical work in the aerospace sector and SAPA builds military vehicles.
Direct accomplices of war
In relation to this, in recent days these four companies have marked in the Basque Country. In particular, paintings have appeared at the headquarters of ITP Aero in Barakaldo (Bizkaia), at the headquarters of Aernnova in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Araba), at the headquarters of Orbital Critical Systems in Artica (Navarra) and at the headquarters of SAPA in Andoain (Gipuzkoa). Paintings include messages like "No to the War Business," "Accomplices of War," or "Collaborator." You can also see calls to mobilize on 31 March and 1 April.
Precisely for those days, the Basque Socialist Councils have organised mobilisations against NATO under the slogan of war and capitalist barbarity. The demonstration will take place on 31 March in Baiona (Lapurdi) and on 1 April in Pamplona (Navarra) and Vitoria.
When we read in ARGIA the article "Children, Police, Micronutrients", we felt very identified with what the vitorians are living in the antimilitarist group in relation to social militarization. Recently, from different local groups and platforms, we have been asked for data on... [+]
It seems that everything is under control, that they know how to make us believe everything, that we never do what we want. As if we live in a constant announcement, we say ‘equal opportunities’, and we think we are saying ‘equal opportunities’, or the PSE says plurality... [+]
I don't know what atmosphere there is in the south of the Bidasoa, but at least in the north is the word "war." In the orders of December 31, 2023, President Macron could seven times correct the word "rearmament." They say that we need to channel the ‘war economy’, and that is... [+]
It has been two years since Russia officially invaded Ukraine and everything points to Russia being brought forward to Ukraine. Russia has been able to take advantage of the war industry to devastate the country’s economy, to seek a new way out of its energy resources and to... [+]
