The price of light has set the last record in the final straight of August. The newspaper Eldiario.es recalled that the Minister for the Ecological Transition and the third vice-president of the Spanish Government, Teresa Ribera, will appear in Congress to explain their situation. The guest will talk about the succession of records related to rising natural gas and CO2 prices. The Minister has opened a debate on the need to reform the electricity market and has forced the Government to propose that a public company manage hydroelectric concessions.
In Hego Euskal Herria, domestic consumers will today pay the most expensive bill in the company’s history. In addition, other energy items such as oil, which exceeds $70, petrol, which has increased by 21.3 per cent for more than a year, and gas oil, by 18.7 per cent, have become more expensive.
Rising electricity bills have a direct impact on inflation, leading to a weakening of the purchasing power of businesses and individuals, in full recovery. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.4% in August compared to the previous month, with an annual rate of 3.3%, four tenths above July and the highest rate since October 2012, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics.
In a statement, the entity itself argued that the increase in electricity prices is as follows: "This behaviour highlights the rise in electricity prices, which this month has been higher than in August last year."
