The ARGIA Working Group Mastodon.eus has joined the Secure aukera adhesion campaign, free networks, which began its sixth anniversary.
“From self-management we have to promote and multiply the communities created in Basque, free and free” is the argument we have given to support free networks. That is why we have been participating in the Fedibertso-Fedibertso- for six years.
ARGIA created in April 2018 its first account in the decentralized social network Mastodon, when Basque communities still did not exist. A few months later, we learned that several agents were working on the creation of the Mastodon community of the Basque Country and the Basque culture: Azkue Fundazioa, Iametza, Laborategia.eus, PuntuEUS Fundazioa and the Talaios cooperative. We do not hesitate and participate from the very beginning.
Since then, we have continued to bet on free networks, with all our contradictions. Since 2020 Iametza created podcasts for free music and podcast Baleafunk.eus we have also published our podcasts there. In 2021 we created our PeerTube: bideoak.argia.eus instance and started using the videos uploaded on our website instead of the Youtube ones we used until then.
In March 2023, at the meetings of the fedibertso-basque, Rita Barrachina and Marcel Costa del colectivo LaLoka gave very interesting clues to “remove the visibility of the associative advertising networks” within our projects. After a few months, on September 16, coinciding with the International Day of Free Software, we decided to retake the proposal and remove from the supports of ARGIA (magazine, website, ads, supplements, posters…) any reference to the social networks dependent on the multinationals.
We deliver the Internet Argia Prize 2023 to the communities of Mastodon Vasco: mastodon.eus and mastodon.jalgi.eus.
I've done a quick analysis of the technology forecasts for 2025. Like every year, when you talk about what technology is going to bring to the media in 2025, the discourse is very similar. Many of us who write about technology have the anxiety of knowing more than it's going to... [+]
The evolution that the Internet has taken over the last 15 years, together with its technological and business model, makes us think that it is a tool to increase the worst aspects of humanity. Around the world, agents have been created that are not satisfied with this idea... [+]
In spaces like the X, today, we will have to recognize that it is impossible to have a public debate and a cultural struggle. In this sense, a mistake is that political projects that intend to lead a leftist change leave platforms like X to make the leap to social networks that... [+]
