The Araba Euskaraz 2019 is underway. Ikastola Armentia will be in charge of organizing it this year and Liher Larrea, president of the ikastola, explained that the goal is “to be close. Close to the agents of Gasteiz, near the Euskaldunization of the city, near the towns of Álava, near the Euskalgintza, near the equality, ready to give and in the end… Willing to be happy. That will be the goal of our Ikastola for the future. That’s what our logo indicates; that’s what arrows mean,” he said.
It was first held in 1981 and since then the festival has brought together thousands and thousands of Alaveses. Ikastola Armentia, for its part, has turned 25 years old and already has over 1,200 students. “With the festival we will consolidate the project,” they explained. They have pointed out that it is a very important year for the Basque Country in Álava with “Euskaraldia, the end of the Korrika and the Basque Country”.
Armentia last organised the Festival de las Ikastolas de Álava in 2006 and since then “because 13 years have passed we are eager to organize the Araba Euskaraz”, explains the students Naroa Velasco and Iratxe Valle. They have therefore chosen to expand the cultural programme throughout the year. “Although the festival will be on June 16, we want to organize cultural activities from November to June, both in Vitoria-Gasteiz and throughout Álava, that is, acting also in the villages”.
