The Eragin Bilbao Precarized Youth Assembly has called a demonstration against gambling halls and betting houses for 28 February. The mobilization will start at 19:30 hours from the Plaza Zabalburu in the Vizcaine capital. In the last year and a half Eragin has put on the table the problem of gambling halls: with the works against the advertising of sports betting, with the map of the game of Bilbao, with communication campaigns... In February last year, for example, a motion was tabled at the City Council of Bilbao dealing with the subject, with several proposals. The members of Eragin have denounced that, after one year, the town hall has not performed its duties.
On this occasion, however, they believe that it is time for people to show their voice and for that they want to take advantage of the demonstration. Alongside the call, a number of minimum demands have been made, such as the ban on advertising, the reduction of gambling hall hours, the removal of classrooms from schools, the increase in tax taxes on companies, the compensation to those affected by gambling or the regularisation and reduction of the content of the game on the Internet.
Expanding movement
The movement against betting houses and the gambling business in Euskal Herria is growing, more and more neighborhoods and towns are supporting the problem and denouncing the problem. Last Saturday the Platform Against the Betting Houses of the County of Pamplona was manifested in the streets of the city. More than 2,000 people took to the streets to show their opposition to betting houses and to demand concrete measures from the Government of Navarra. In Vitoria-Gasteiz, the Judimendi Youth Assembly has also been fighting the neighborhood’s playroom for a long time.
