On April 2, several agents and individuals appeared in the market place of Gernika, Euskal Herria not to war! peace, life, sovereignty to read and bring to the wind the manifesto.
The starting point of the initiative made it clear from the outset: “The war in Ukraine and the belligerent atmosphere that has been created around it prompted us to hold the first meeting in Astra two weeks ago.” At that first meeting, the manifesto was agreed, as well as its transfer to citizenship.
At the hearing it was established that with the publication of the manifesto three calls have been made to the Basque society. I join the citizens and the agents in joining the manifesto. The second is to individuals and groups, to assume the principles of manifesto – dialogue, peace, life, sovereignty – and to incorporate them into their action in the case of agents. And finally, they also used to appeal for mobilisation.
They have chosen a symbolically meaningful day to call for mobilization. On 26 April, on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the bombing of Gernika, concentrations will be held at 19:00 in front of the municipalities of the capitals of Hego Euskal Herria. Some localities may join the call and convene local concentrations.
“As we see in the world and in Euskal Herria, the consequences of wars are paid by society and the most vulnerable sectors. Therefore, in the face of the warmongering visions that they are imposing, let us proclaim that we want Euskal Herria to be a territory of peace”, they called society.
According to the Guernica Gernikara initiative, more than 400 people have joined the manifesto and more than 20 collectives have done so. The option to sign remains open via this form.
