The evening has been opened by the young group ALBA. The Hazptan Quintet presents his first album on the same day, and the audience welcomes him with a thin ear. Combining light progressive rhythms with heavy riffs, the game of the two drums has left room for guitars textures. Moog assumes the role of singer with attractive melodies. From tension to despair, from chaos to idyllic happiness, I've been led by the initiatic journey of ALBA.
But it wasn't the only surprise of the night. After enjoying the violent doom of the Horzdun group in Hondarribia, I went to take air, with soda in my hand. Suddenly a man with an electric guitar comes out of gaztetxe: “We are The Third Eye, now we start, and we don’t want to play in front of anyone, so go!” The friends looked at each other with a smile and at the height of this nice eviction we gave them the best answer: we went to the front line.
The Capbreton group makes an aggressive and raw post-hardcore, composed of drums, guitarist/singer and bassist. I've always been a great fan of power-trio groups (Berri Txarrak, Muse, Nirvana…) and I have to confess that I haven't had the opportunity for a long time to see the trios so strong. In three cases, each instrument has found its place. The bass has allowed the guitarist to climb to the top notes, without the general sound losing an apex of force. With the help of Reverba, the ventilated environments also have their space, sometimes I've been reminded of Gojira.
It is observed that the priority of the group is to show the highest possible energy in the scenario. The guitarist, when he doesn't sing, can't stand still. When he chants again, Shure 57, the micro that is normally used for instruments, makes him fall two or three times out of his leg. As aggressive as the singer’s top voice gives more dimension to the group’s riffs.
Although the group is very young, it would seem that the members of The Third Eye have a long experience on the stage, so dominated has been the concert they have offered us. The group will offer a concert in the Atabal room in Biarritz on July 4, next to Birds In Row and Decibelles, again organized by the BrahBrah group.
