The Rama 2025 Award has the following winner: San Sebastian musician Antton Valverde. This was announced at a press conference held on Tuesday morning at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre by the Councilor for Culture, Jon Insausti, the programming technician of the Music of Culture section of San Sebastian, Esther Fernandino, and Valverde himself. Valverde is the twelfth Rama Award, awarded by the City Council of San Sebastian and Donostia Kultura.
The jury, made up of the journalist Odile Kruzeta, the director of the Basque Service of the City Council of San Sebastian, Edurne Otamendi, and the director of the Lugaritz Cultural Center, Gorka Iribar, has highlighted the artist’s “influence on the Basque song”, taking into account the impact he has had “on the recovery of popular songs and old verses, on the dissemination of the work of classical Basque poets, for the sensitivity shown in favour of female poetry, for the preservation of the modern Basque song on stage, for its personal and theatrical composition, as well as an explanation of his musical composition.
In this way, Valverde will receive on June 21 the trophy of the award made by the sculptor Marijose Rekalde by the mayor Eneko Goia, who will offer a concert in succession, coinciding with the European Day of Music. The event, which will take place at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, will be accompanied by the musicians Francisco Herrero (violin), Ivan Carmona (cello), Joxan Goikoetxea (accordion) and Txema Garcés (double bass). Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday 30th at 11:30 for 20 euros at the ticket offices of Victoria Eugenia and the Teatro Principal and on the website.
