Anticapitalist
- Jesús Fernández Naves (Oviedo/Uviéu 1934, Vitoria-Gasteiz 2021), one of the best known representatives of the 1976 strike in Álava, antimilitarist, antimilitarist and anti-capitalist, died a few days ago in Vitoria-Gasteiz, but has left a mark on the places where he lived and in the Basque working class.
There are a lot of people who think that the economy is nothing more than numbers, statistics, multinationals, companies, entrepreneurs and bankers. On the contrary, the basis of the economy is the human being, society, peoples, workers. And in this column, we try to analyze it from this last perspective.
That is why we want to remind a friend here: Jesús Fernández Naves. It was an example of the struggle for this economy at the service of people, society, peoples and their workers. Jesus has recently died in Vitoria-Gasteiz, at the age of 86, after having suffered hard years of Alzheimer's in his memory. He was one of the best known representatives of the strike that ended with the police massacre of 3 March 1976 at the orders of Fraga and Martín Villa. This attack resulted in the deaths of five strikers and many wounded.
Jesus was entirely anticapitalist. And that's why it was also anti-antienlazist, internationalist and anti-militarist. Aware of the serious consequences of capitalism, he defended equality, always against personal leadership, always convinced that the workers' assembly was the best method of struggle and organization.
I was aware that the peoples are liberated when they are united and insofar as they are united, and that is why internationalism has been practised on a permanent basis. Totally pacifist, enemy of wars, he was also founder and member of the anti-militarist group of Vitoria, knowing that weapons are one of the great businesses of capitalism.
With his life, model and humility, Jesus has left a mark on Argentina, Chiapas, Vitoria and many other peoples, and especially on the Basque working class. Jesus, friend and colleague, goodbye and honor!
