Reluctantly, but recently, the Government of Navarre has authorised the Caparroso vaccine to double the number of animals from 3,450 cows to 7,200, after the Superior Court of Justice of Navarre annulled last year the decree limiting the size of farms.

In order to denounce this decision, the Movement for Food Sovereignty of Navarra (MOVIMIENTO) declared itself against the gigantic livestock projects on Saturday.

The negative consequences of farms are many: they consume large amounts of energy and water, pour waste in tonnes, pollute soil and water, they need large investments and can only be done by large producers, they are fully mechanized, they produce very little employment and precarious, they lead to land grabbing, they throw farmers out of their land and, as a result of the accumulation of animals, they cause serious risks to public health, among others.

They therefore urgently need to stop supporting the industrial agri-livestock model, and they call both the Government of Navarra and the consumidores.Asimismo, they have demanded the Eroski supermarket to stop selling beef milk from Caparroso.

They say that public policies are needed to promote the agro-ecological transition, to move towards a small-scale agricultural system, but to achieve this the impulse of society is essential, and that is why they have come to the streets in favor of food sovereignty and a future that puts life at the centre.
