On Thursday, the Spanish police will testify in relation to the allegations of torture by the Imaginary Ander Maeztu. According to the young man, he received constant beatings and threats and was put in the bag on his head twice: "They insisted that I sign the self-incrimination they said if I wanted to see my mother alive again. And finally, I had to say yes," he explained at the time of his testimony at Naiz.eus.
The rest of the young people also denounced the torture, but the courts of Pamplona and Madrid archived all these denunciations on several occasions. In May 2017, Maeztu’s lawyer managed to have his case reopened in the Territorial Court of Madrid and seven police officers were summoned to testify. In any case, the defense denounced the "passivity" of the court at the time of taking statements to the police.
Maeztu was tried in 2014 on charges of being Segi’s along with 27 others, almost all of whom – including Maeztu – were acquitted. Only two received reduced criminal sentences.
The founder of Pamplona expressed his "full solidarity and support" to the young man from Borrona and recalled that, like him, hundreds of other Navarreses had been tortured. Sortu says that these cases must also be investigated in order to "know the whole truth, deepen the recognition and carry out the reparation."
