He called a strike CC.OO. trade unions at all Amazon Spanish workplaces. The intention of the staff is to perform one-hour stops on November 27 and 28 of each shift, Black Friday and Cyber Monday campaign days.
Employees report that Amazon does not take measures to protect workers’ health when work causes health damage. They also point out that there are “failures” in the accident management system and safety measures.
They highlight that there are “few resources to solve labor claims”, for example, when they have problems in collecting payroll and in managing leave or vacation: “The Local Departments of Human Resources have fewer and fewer resources and, to worsen the situation, the outsourcing of some processes has significantly deteriorated the support provided.”
Nor do they agree with wages. The workers say that Amazon pays the “minimum wage” of each province and that these salaries do not compensate for the “workload established by the company and the daily demands”.
In order to resolve these discrepancies, the union is willing to resort to mediation through the SIMA organization to avoid strike. However, Amazon has defended and claimed that it offers competitive wages, comprehensive benefits for workers and a modern and safe working environment.
