Free from Altsasu
- We're only a week away from the Altsasu youth trial. The court of exception, the laws of exception... THE EXCEPTION! This is the situation that we have been living in the Basque Country for a long time.
This situation is not new. The entire exception architecture that dates back to the Franco era has only been shaped over the years. But it has remained exceptional, it has continued to violate the civil and political rights of all, as well as to maintain the objective of silencing dissidents. They've managed to do it for their own interests. This is how we have known anti-terrorist legislation, incommunication, torture, media shutdown...
It has been six years since ETA laid down its arms and the only visible organized political violence that we have experienced in these years in the Basque Country has been that of the State or of various administrations. However, the old emergency laws remain in place, along with the new ones. Such as the Mozal Law or the reform of the new penal code.
Depending on the situation, repression is applied to us in white or black. Here is the case of the young people of Altsasu, in black; and with it, with the intention of punishing their solidarity, the white repression, the fines.
In this situation, we cannot be content with the failure to apply or relax the means that were developed during the years of armed conflict to implement the policies of exception. All these and more must disappear from the legal system. As well as all those necessary to maintain them.
If we want civil and political rights to be respected, we must fight for it. If we want Ainara, Aritz, Adur, Jokin, Iñaki, Selva, Julen, Jon Ander, Aratz, Desire and Aitor LIBRE, we will have to fight for the rights of all.
To do this, we must organize a struggle that adequately and massively mixes the most diverse components. The pain and anger that this situation gives us, the commitment, the imagination, the tenderness towards the defendants, the firmness towards the aggressors, the broad support of the society, the disobedience, the humor... These may be some of the ingredients, but there may be more.
Let us fight for the young people of Altsasu, let us fight for the civil and political rights of all!
