Young people have received a statement from the Spanish Penitentiary Association (AESPE). All five have been classified 2.graduan, the same as that applied to inmates when they have a firm conviction. In other words, they have not been granted the third grade. They will not be able to spend the day out of prison to work or study. We must remember two other young people from Altsasu, Iñaki Abadi and Aratz Urrizola, specifically number 3. They got the grade before Christmas, and since then they spend the day and weekends out of jail.
It appears that the prisoners in Alsasua have been classified on the basis of the prison sentence charged to them. The one from Abad is 3.5 years and the one from Urrizola is 4 years and 2 months. Oihan Arranz (9.5 years), Adur Ramirez de Alda (8.5 years), Jokin Unamuno (8.5 years), Julen Goikoetxea (7.5 years), and Jon Ander Cob (7.5 years) are classified in grade 2. Arranze, Ramirez de Alda and Unamuno have been in prison for 1,151 days, while Cob and Goikoetxea have been in pre-trial detention for 619 days.
Grade 2 classification allows them to start asking for permits, i.e. the possibility of spending a few days out of prison.
