Electric scooters for rent outside the streets of Paris
- Since 1 September there are no electric skateboards for rent in Paris, in the popular vote no. Participation has not been high (7.46%), but the refusal has received 90% of the votes, and for the authorities it has been sufficient to materialise the idea that rental scooters have been withdrawn from traffic to give their place to electric bicycles.
The French capital was one of the first to set up the service of renting electric skateboards to take steps in favour of more sustainable means of transport, but as its use increases, the rules have been increasing accidents and other problems, such as problems of coexistence with pedestrians. Thus, the Paris City Council decided to hold a referendum in which the majority of the citizens who voted opposed the use of the skateboards.
In Paris, some 15,000 electric skateboards could be rented until today. The service was offered by three companies (Tier, Lime, Dott) and Tier, for example, announced that it will withdraw the skateboards but will put 5,000 new electric bicycles into circulation.
15,000 skateboards, made in the necessary repair, will be sent to other French and European cities. People with private skateboards will be able to continue using them in Paris.
Monreal, Copenhagen, Barcelona...
Measures against electric skateboards have already been taken in several cities. In Montreal (Quebec), for example, every electric scooter has been banned; in Copenhagen (Denmark) it was temporarily banned for re-authorisation with more stringent measures; and in Barcelona (Catalan Countries) it has been provisionally prohibited to increase the skateboards to public transport until the regulation is complete.
