The President of the Government of Navarra, María Chivite, replied that this is a national road and that “the legal services of the foral government say it is impossible”.
In a joint statement, the mayors replied that the N-232, N-II and N-340 roads, Zaragoza axis - Logroño, France corridor to the Mediterranean, and the N-240, Ebro axis to Tarragona, are also "national", but similar deviations have occurred in these areas: “In the latter, the governments of La Rioja and Catalonia opted for the safety and tranquillity of their peoples, banning lorries from travelling through them.”
According to the mayor and local neighbors, over the past three decades more than 200 people have died and hundreds have been seriously injured on the N-121A: “How many deaths claim legal certainty?” they ask.
The Government of Navarra wants to turn this road into the type 2+1. In other words, the whole road would be three lanes, sometimes two lanes in one direction and others in another direction, and in the third lane it would not be possible to advance. The Belate tunnels would also have two lanes in both directions.
However, the mayors feel that it is not necessary to carry out all this expenditure and that it would be sufficient to ban heavy traffic on the road now used as a European corridor and to divert it to the A-15 motorway. For years, local authorities and the citizens of this road have been demanding it, and the mobilizations that have taken place this Friday afternoon have been the mobilizations.
Here are some of the cuts made along the road:
