On 4 February, at the request of EH Bildu, the director of the Hazi Foundation, Asier Arrese, appeared in the Basque Parliament. Alfredo de Miguel and Koldo Otxandiano of the De Miguel case, which has been condemned by a judgment of extreme hardship and is the largest case of corruption in the Basque Country, continue to work in two public societies.
All videos are available on the website of the Basque Parliament, here.
Eldiario.es From the chronicle made by Iker Rioja in the middle we gather what the appearance has shown us:
De Miguel has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for leading a plot where charges for sexual abuse could be charged. De Miguel joined ICT in 2000 (he was 28 years old and was named the "number two" of the PNV in Álava that same year) and is the society that will later meet with the Itsasmendikoi and Kalitatea societies to start Hazi. He was released in 2007 when he became a Deputy of Álava. He was arrested in 2010 for corruption, but Hazin went back to work. The director of Hazi, Arrese, recalled at the parliamentary hearing that the PSE was then in government and said that this shows that the readmission decision was related to labour rights.
According to data provided by Arres, at that time De Miguel's salary was EUR 24,000 per year, frozen since 2007, "but approved by the agreement was EUR 27,000". Subsequently, Hazi's work levels were redefined and he was awarded level C, with a salary of 33,000 euros. Since then, and as a result of an internal promotion, De Miguel has risen to level B and receives 37,000 euros a year.
Opposition parties have denounced that in practice no bill has been passed on to those convicted of corruption and that the administration continues to give work to them.
Hazi's director, Asier Arrese, said that, before the judgment is final (the judgment of the Provincial Court has been appealed to the Supreme Court), the dismissal of public employment would be "violation of fundamental rights". In the video, he pointed out that in this case we have to distinguish the political part "that belongs to you", the labor part "that belongs to us" and the legal part, and "time marks us the legal part, the judges".
The judge has sentenced Koldo Otxandiano to seven years in prison for belonging to the terrorist organization. He's an accounting technician at the Miñano Technological Park. He was employed and reinstated from leave to work in the middle of his trial.
