After twelve years as leader of the party, Andoni Ortuzar gives Aitor Esteban the command pole of the Basque National Assembly of the PNV. After the discussions in the selection process of the central leadership, Esteban calls on the members of the party to unite: "With our career and to continue building the Basque Country, I ask for unity, exemplarity, and humility." 1,800 people gather on Sunday for the 9th party. At the General Assembly, Atano III of San Sebastián.
The hundred members of the Patriotic Assembly unanimously elected Esteban as president of the EBB, who thanked Ortuzar for his first words in the General Assembly, "for his work with passion for the Basque Country".The 62-year-old from Bilbao, who has assumed the position "with honor, responsibility and humility", clarifies that, in order to dismiss the incidents in the internal process of the PNV, there are not "two souls" in the party, but 22,000 members who are "beating at the same time".
In fact, Esteban insists that "intrigue and infidelity" have no place in the party and asks the party members not to help those whose objective is the defeat of the PNV. Regarding the tasks of the new leadership of the PNV, the President of the BVV explains that the most urgent thing is to improve the coordination and dialogue between the different organs that make up the party, as well as to remodel the structure of the organization and adapt it to "the current reality".
The internal process of the party is concluded
Coinciding with the inauguration of Esteban, the internal process of the PNV began in November with an end, the Patriotic Assembly has selected the eight members that will make up the new Basque Country Chief Assembly: Joseba Díez Antxustegi, Andoni Busquet, Maitane Ipiñazar, Miren Martiarena, Ion Gambra, Javier Ollo, Markel Olano and Manu Tejada. They will be joined by the heads of the territorial councils that will also be part of the National Executive Committee: Iñigo Ansola (Bizkaia), Maria Eugenia Arrizabalaga (Gipuzkoa), Jone Berriozabal (Álava), Unai Hualde (Navarra) and Peio Etxeleku (North).
Ortuzar will leave the position satisfied
After Esteban, it’s time for Ortuzar to speak. He says that during his twelve years in office he has been "lucky and happy" and that "together they have made the party bigger": "The seven that we carry in our shield have taken new steps towards that one, and we have placed our emblem and our anagram at its highest. I can't ask for more." Wish luck to the new EBB and Esteban. The speech concludes with a verse by the former president of the EBB, the Father and Son of Oskor with the melody and the final point "nobody ever forgets / unity is strength".
Vitoria or Ezkio?
On Saturday the IX began. To the General Assembly, we are the Party under the slogan. One of the most important topics mentioned during the event has been the AVE’s link. The former Deputy General of Bizkaia, Unai Rementeria, spoke about it on Saturday: Although he stated that the resolution on the TAV should be agreed "as soon as possible", he did not announce whether they will defend the realization of the link in Ezkio or Vitoria. In fact, the mayor of San Sebastián, Eneko Goia, and the mayor of Álava, Ramiro González, had a quarrel last week, as Goia considered González "selfish" for supporting the Vitoria-Gasteiz link.
