On 14 April last, the marine rescue NGO Aita Mari rescued 47 people in Maltese waters. Malta has denied them the landing, and due to the "extreme" situation of some of these people, these 13 people managed to land in Lampedusa.
Father Mari then headed from Lampedusa to the west of Sicily, on the orders of Italy. The rescue boat has been granted permission on 18 April to leave the other 34 people rescued in a safe place: they will build a ferry aboard a ferry. They may be quarantined to prevent coronavirus.
