Associations and groups working in the fight against the TAV and in favour of the social train have also called to attend the demonstration that will take place next Saturday, 18, at 12:00 pm in Plaza San Antón de Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Subai Erakuntza recalled that they have recently been in the European Parliament and that the European Union Committee on Transport told them two very clear things: on the one hand, contrary to what the Spanish and Basque authorities say, that in Euskal Herria the TAV will only bring travellers; on the other hand, the EU will reduce aid to the Spanish state.
No social return
With this in mind, Subai Erakuntza does not understand how the TAV for Navarra continues to be done, let alone with the agreement of some parties: “By doing so, they remain committed to the economic waste of the work of the TAV. There is no report or analysis that can know the impact of this expenditure on the public accounts. And if it were not enough, they seriously damage the environment and the territory, without showing any social, environmental or economic returns.”
From the association they denounce that “the construction of the TAV will end the stations of Alsasua, Tafalla, Olite and Castejón, among others. Faced with this absurdity, we propose to maintain and improve the current train. We need a social train to unite towns, cities and industrial areas; to transport goods and passengers; to compact the territory without isolating areas; not to marginalize anyone economically, making it available to people”.
Only 6% of train travelers use TAV
The groups that support the Vitoria-Gasteiz demonstration have just published a journal on the APR project in which it is stated that in 2018, 2,700 million euros were invested in the Spanish State and 848 million euros in the regular networks. However, according to the Ministry of Development, the high speed reached 29.9 million passengers in the same year and 477.1 million in other trains in the same period. In other words, although three times more resources are allocated to the fast train, only 6% of train travellers use it.
