Next Saturday, at 12:00 noon, the Orain Esku initiative has organised a demonstration in Pamplona/Iruña. The mobilization, which will start with the Deputy and end with the Government Delegation, aims to denounce that "in the midst of the biggest crisis in recent years, the State intends to invest EUR 62 million in the APR in Navarre next year (62% of the Spanish State budget for this Community, the largest amount allocated to this infrastructure since the beginning of the works)".
This demonstration will also denounce the "white elephant policy". "The white elephant is an international symbol that represents useless, destructive and impositive infrastructures that, like the Thai white elephants, generate more maintenance costs than the eventual benefits they should produce, causing the destruction of the supposed beneficiaries," the organizers explained.
"If the continuity in the APR is not justified at any time, and less in the midst of the biggest crisis of the last hundred years, more than 15% of the population lives in a situation of severe poverty, unemployment rates constantly increase, there are cutbacks in basic sectors, there are hospitals close to collapse, there are residences for the elderly, economic sectors such as hospitality and culture are in an unsustainable situation and we have a more worrying future than ever."
In this context, they consider "an insult" that "the institutions continue to waste public funds in the TAV, and even more so when much more is needed to invest than has been spent so far (58% in the Basque Y and 96% in the Navarre corridor, according to data from the AIREF). We denounce that in the general budgets of the State of 2021, of the 570 million euros allocated to the CAV, 294 are allocated to the TAV, which is 51.5%. Regarding Navarre, of the 87 million budgeted, 62 million correspond to the APR, which represents 62.67% of the total. We also denounce the stagnation of the autonomous governments of the CAV and Navarra, repeatedly demanding a large part of the European funds for the reconstruction of COVID-19 to finance this work".
Now, from Kona, they only ask "the least caution in the midst of this tremendous irresponsibility", added the Abertzale training. "We call for the immediate cessation of this work and for funds to strengthen the public system in order to maintain decent living conditions, guaranteeing employment, health, education, pensions, housing, social services and quality care for all citizens. After all, life should be put at the centre of politics," they said.
We have been with the "summer snake" over the TAV for a few weeks and with the possibility of linking the "Basque Y" from Pamplona, from Ezkio or Vitoria.
