The U.S. Department of Justice appeals to a Texas federal judge, Matthew Kacsmary. The judge seeks to curb the marketing of the abortion pill Mifepristone in the United States and to ban the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Now, the New Orleans Court of Appeal has ruled that the Mifepristone pill can be used for abortions, EITB reports. However, it may be used more narrowly than before: only the first seven weeks of pregnancy and by medical prescription.
In the United States, the Mifepristone and Misoprostola pills have been used, authorized by the Food and Drug Administration Agency since 2000. According to the Guttmacher Institute, more than half of the abortions in the United States (53%) have been made with medications. According to the AFP, abortions using both pills are "very safe and effective".
