This is stated by the medium eldiario.es. The Environmental Protection Agency has announced a moratorium on 26 March: polluting industries will not be subject to environmental legislation "for a period" since 13 March.
The CEO of the Agency, Andrew Wheeler, weighs the decision: "EPA is committed to protecting human health and the environment, but we have to recognize that protecting workers and citizens from coronavirus can directly influence the ability of industries to comply with regulated obligations."
In particular, the EPA has taken the decision not to criminalise the control of inactivity of companies during the coronavirus crisis and to send reports that they should send periodically.
The news reports that the pressure of the oil industry lies behind this measure. In fact, last week the American Petroleum Institute sent an open letter to President Trump, in which he made two specific requests to the EPA: to suspend those controls, as well as not having to change the fuel between winter and spring.
In fact, the EPA forces a change in the gas oil mixture from winter to spring to prevent the fuel from evaporating when temperatures are heated, which releases more ozone.
The EPA, for the time being, has not pronounced on this second demand from the oil industry.
