42.5% of Basques would vote in favour of the Basque state in a referendum, according to data from Metro Nacional
- If an agreed official referendum is held, the majority of Basque citizens will lean towards the Basque State, according to the laboratory Telesforo Monzon eLab of Euskal Herrigintza and the research group Parte Hartuz of the UPV/EHU. This is one of the most significant results of the first National Metro that both institutions have presented this Thursday. The Nationometer, the “Barometer of Basque sovereignty”, will have continuity and its objective is, among others, to make known the desires and reasons for independence and unionism.
On Thursday morning, the results of the first investigation of the “Barometer of Sovereignty” were presented in the Olaso Tower of Bergara. “If the Basque State improves its social, economic or gender policies, favorable positions increase.” According to the study, among those who would not vote in favour of the Basque State, support would increase significantly if social policies were increased (40%), if gender policies were deepened (37%), if the new state were to provide a "better economic situation" (33%) and if it were to be located within the European Union (33%).
