In this video you can see a 16-year-old playing at the betting house that the company RETA has opened in Plaza Balentina Agirre de Azpeitia. The consequences of the opening of a betting house in our country have been a concern from the outset. From the point of view of young people, more and more young people are betting both on premises and on the net, and therefore also those who develop their addiction. However, the problem is structural, so we are aware that it is not just a line of work for young people.
Opening these premises in working-class neighborhoods is no coincidence, they want precarious young people to fall into the hook of 'easy money'; instead of leaving the misery, they lead them to choke in more whirlwind. The owners of these premises are enriched at the expense of the humble people, which has led us to reflect and actively participate in the mobilizations.
The audiovisual we present is not intended to question the decision-making capacity of minors, and we do not think that the problem lies in non-compliance with the law. And that is that the Basque Government has the capacity to legislate on betting houses, which has allowed this place to be opened without problems in our people. In addition, in the talks that have taken place in recent months, we have seen the smell of rotting that emerges around this issue. However, the main argument of those behind this venue has been to stress that the opening of the betting house is legal, and that is what we have been debating. We will continue to work until the closing of the betting house.
