The trial for Miguel's case will end today, after the ruling was made public. The judgment is being read in the public session to be held this morning in the Second Section of the Provincial Court of Álava. A total of 26 people have sat in the dock for being members of the largest corruption network in Euskal Herria. Among others, Alfredo de Miguel, Antón Telleria and Kolodo Otxandiano.
The trial for these facts began on January 8, 2018. Alfredo de Miguel has been sentenced to 29 years and 9 months in prison for 27 crimes of illicit association, bribery, prevarication and embezzlement of public flows, among others. Finally, De Miguel has been sentenced to 9 years in prison. Previously, De Miguel will face fines of almost EUR 12 million and disqualifications.
The justice system accuses De Miguel, Otxandiano and Tellería of leading a network that used its relations with the PNV to make concessions in the institutions that run the PNV and charge commissions to the companies that participated in the bidding. Specifically, the collection of fees in the contract of expansion of the Technological Park of Minñano. In 2009, attorney Ainhoa Alberdi denounced that the then foral deputy, Alfredo de Miguel, had asked for a commission of 100,000 euros to mediate.
Koldo Otxandiano, manager of the Social Welfare Institute and member of the Araba Buru Batzar, was an accountant in Miñano's own technological park. Otxandiano has been sentenced to 6 years and 9 months in prison for attempted murder.
The defendants were arrested in 2018, according to the Basque police. At that time, the lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, was president of the PNV and, in order not to harm his party, were dismissed.
