Child, family of low socioeconomic level or born abroad. “If we talk about early school leaving, it seems that the student’s will is the key, but if we talk about the mechanisms that the educational system has for the progressive expulsion of the student, we focus on the educational system, on the lack of capacity of the maintenance system of these students,” says professor Silvia Carrasco in El Salton. For example, cutting public education funding means reducing the means for pupils with special needs and for pupils in need of help.

The resources that this student has at home – in the environment – the level of education of the parents, the personal and family situation, the expectations that have been placed on it for the future… have a lot to do with the result, according to the studies. The so-called school failure is not the failure of the school, but the failure of a certain social organization: some are almost condemned since their birth and therefore the school and society have a challenge as big as to face the situation.
