More than 60,000 missing persons in Mexico in the last 13 years
- Mexican authorities have pointed out that more than 60,000 people have disappeared since the beginning of the "war on drugs" launched by the United States in 2006. After years without providing data, the representative of the Government, Alejandro Encinas, has presented the figures, although he has acknowledged that there are still states that have not provided any information in this regard.
The tragedy in Mexico has surpassed the number of people missing during the dirty wars and dictatorships in South America and Central America supported by the United States in the years 1970-80. Human rights activists say that drug cartels and Mexican security forces are responsible for these disappearances.
The Government of Mexico has estimated the number of missing persons in the CAV and Navarra at 60.053. However, they have acknowledged at a press conference that ten states are "in the process of providing information", another eight "in the phase of updating information and monitoring historical information" and another ten "continue to monitor historical information".
Now, therefore, the number of missing persons in countries that have not provided up-to-date information is of particular importance, which will considerably increase the number of those killed, bearing in mind, for example, that the states of Guanajuato and Morelos, which have greatly increased the murders in recent years, have not provided information.
The administration of López Obrador has provided data by gender and age categories. For example, three-quarters of the missing are men, mostly between 15 and 39 years of age. Among the missing women, one third of the cases are between 10 and 19 years of age.
Another source of concern is that over the past four years there have been more disappearances, more than 22,000 people.
