Pello Jauregi has created a methodology to achieve the minimum level of understanding in Basque in 60 hours
- Pello Jauregi has developed a methodology in which he has put together strategies for those who do not understand the Basque language to reach a minimum level of understanding of the Basque language. All the work that the Cluster of Sociolingusitica has published is available here and is authorized to share it under a free license.
The Uler-saioak methodology aims for individuals to acquire the ability to understand the Basque language as soon as possible, "so that they can immerse themselves in the street and in natural environments in Basque relationships (at least in the format of bilingual conversations)."
The Uler-saioa methodology designs a 60 hour process for individuals to have access to a level A1 comprehension at this time. The book explains the day-to-day programming and along with it a series of methodological councils to support the pedagogical activity. Therefore, the methodology is prepared to be carried out in the classroom with a professor or "trainer" who will provide the students with many intelligible inputs in Euskera: "The trainer, using a simple and simple Basque, performs communication activities and constantly verifies what the recipients understand. The methodology does not directly develop the ability to speak in Basque. People are not asked to speak in Basque. The only focus is on understanding, so it is up to individuals to constantly check what they have understood the trainer".
The methodology has been tested in these organizations
Since 2016, several experiences have been carried out to test this methodology, as explained in the book itself: 2016 in the Hacienda de la Diputación de Gipuzkoa and 2017 in the Hacienda de la Diputación de Gipuzkoa, Fagor Arrasate in the plant of San Sebastián and Armeria Eskola de Eibar.
Uler-saioa is the methodology of the Aldahitz project
The Sociolinguistics Cluster has edited the methodology developed by the professor of the University of the Basque Country, Pello Jauregi, and is part of the Aldahitz project that they have been working since 2010. This project develops methodologies for changing language habits and Pello Jauregi himself is the director of the project. Before the Uler-saioak methodology, two more have been created within the Aldahitz project: Eusle and Ulerrizketa.
The Aldahitz project has the participation of the University of the Basque Country, the Euskera Artez Service, the Ahize-AEK consultancy, the Elhuyar consultancy and the Emun consultancy. The Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa are sponsors and participants.
