Cleaners at the Hotel Barceló Bilbao Nervión received EUR 2.5 per room (which means a monthly payment of EUR 800, including extra fees); contracts, mostly temporary, were covered by legal fraud and ratios were excessive. A real state of exploitation.

In the case of the Hotel NH, the salary after the conflict two years ago was EUR 13,000 gross per year.

On 12 December the workers of the subcontract of NH Villa de Bilbao ended the strike, after reaching an agreement with the company; salaries will increase by 30% in 2019 (17,500 euros a year) and in 2020 will be fully implemented the hospitality agreement (about 20,000 euros), which means a salary increase of 48% in 13 months and all conditions of the provincial hospitality agreement.

The cleaning rooms of the Hotel Barceló Bilbao Nervión will increase by 30% in 2019 (17,500 euros per year), in 2020 the salary will be 18,500 euros and in 2021 the hospitality agreement will be applied in full, so that the wages will be higher than 20,000 euros per year.

In addition, the company undertakes to readmit workers who have been dismissed on strike or who have already completed their contract and to set up a job exchange for other temporary workers, in order to give them a preference in recruitment.

In both hotels, the Constant Group will draw up a working schedule for working days, days off, holidays and public holidays, thus avoiding the additional hours that had previously been produced in a totally irregular manner and without financial compensation.

Once the agreement was signed, the workers of Barceló Bilbao Nervión disconvene the strike and return to their jobs this Wednesday.

ELA has supported the workers in this conflict and congratulated the subcontractors of both hotels for their struggle to improve their working conditions, thus putting an end to the exploitation situation they suffered.

Finally, the strike workers, as well as ELA, want to express their gratitude to the neighbors who live in the vicinity of the hotels for having endured songs, speakers and demands and apologize for the inconvenience caused.
