The Government of Navarra will allocate EUR 160,000 in subsidies to deal with Pyrenean depopulation. The two-thirds who applied for grants, totalling 174 students, will range from EUR 360 to EUR 2,000.
News from Navarra explained that the programme focuses on promoting the “equality of opportunities” and “family reconciliation” of the Pyrenean population. It divided the grants into three lines: Line A for children from 0 to 3 years, line B for children from 3 to 16 years and line C for children from 16 to 19 years.

A press conference was held in February in which Gu Pirinioa explained the urgency and called for action to address depopulation. Spokeswoman Mabel Cañada reported that she lost 10 per cent of the population per year. They called for, among other things, support for the parliamentary paper on the Pyrenees, for social housing rents to be created and for the ratios of education teachers to be adjusted to the situation.
