Between 2010 and 2020 there have been 238 occupational accidents due to falls from height in Navarre, which has caused significant delays. 12 people have died. The Government of Navarre has indicated that such incidents are caused by the failure to implement the necessary safety measures and has called for responsibility from construction and maintenance companies.
Most of these occupational accidents are due to the poor situation of the materials used by companies or to the low quality of the materials, which are fragile. The tools that workers use are not prepared to bear the weight of an older person, so they fall down. This is what the Government of Navarre said after the data on fatal accidents were made public.
In addition to the problem of materials, they have, in general, underlined the lack of responsibility of companies in the face of the facts. On the one hand, they have denounced that no security system has been put in place in the area. In addition, they have explained that if placed, their installation should be better, it is not something that should be “improvised” in this way, but a measure that should be controlled and supervised by the trained people. On the other hand, they have explained that when accidents occur, companies do not identify the incidents, nor do they develop the evaluation and analysis to avoid them.
On 3 June, the Navarre Occupational Safety Council met to analyse the data. On the basis of the report on accidents at work published in 2020, he pointed out that since then accidents have decreased. However, it has concluded that these are positive data derived from the sector's stopping during the pandemic.
