One person has been sentenced to eighteen months in prison and compensated for taking part in the general strike called for by the Charter of Social Rights of the Basque Country on 30 January. The defendant, who was not identified or arrested on the day of strike, is charged with offences of attack on authority and injury. On Thursday morning, the magistrate passed to the courts of Vitoria-Gasteiz, where he was convened by the Charter of Social Rights of the Basque Country. "Claiming a job, a pension, a dignified life is not a crime!" Under the motto, they have expressed their support for the processing and have demanded its acquittal. They have denounced that judgment is an attack on political freedoms and not on independence.
In addition to the trial, several of the participants in the strike in recent months have been fined by the trade unions. The Permanent Social Forum of Euskal Herria considers all of them to be an "attempt to criminalize social change" and, above all, has announced that they will continue to mobilize.
