200,000 reservists to train in Poland
- They want to offer massive military training in Poland, especially to civilians without military experience. The government intends almost to double the number of soldiers in the context of the war in Ukraine. The government also wants to strengthen paramilitary forces.
With the beginning of 2023, and almost a year after the war in Ukraine, they announce the massive military training in Poland of 200,000 civilians. It appears that they will mainly call on people with no military experience and several media say that all these reservists have been elected for possible mobilisation. They say that they will be required to participate in military training, although in fact compulsory military service was suspended in Poland in 2009.
130,000 are the reservists who have called for military training and who have no military experience. 28,000 have volunteered to be soldiers and 38,000 have already received some military training in recent years.
There are currently 164,000 soldiers in the Polish military forces. But it seems the government wants to have 300,000 soldiers, it almost wants to double the number of forces. Five years ago the Polish Government created the so-called Territorial Defence Force. Some 30,000 volunteers are part of these paramilar forces, but they want more people to join to reach 50,000. In addition, the government has recently launched a voluntary military service offering participants salaries and tax benefits of EUR 1,000.
