In 1936 they praised the twelve Republicans shot in Labastida
- In November 1936, twelve Republicans were killed by the Francoists in Labastida and buried in a pit near the road. The corpses were exhumed in 1980 and on Sunday, taking a further step in recovering the memory and dignity of the deceased, an act of tribute was celebrated. It included, inter alia, the Municipality of Labastida, the Gogoan Institute and the Basque Government.
Nicolás Martínez de Sojo Bastida, Félix Urrecho Ruiz, Leopoldo González Izarra, Ismenio Moneo Tordomar, Francisco Sanjuan Melchán, Braulio Antón García, Vicente Rojas Carboneras, Feliz del Campo Ábalos, Juan Martínez Balámondo, Herísio Sagízar II Spain. They are the names of the twelve Republicans shot in Labastida (Rioja Alavesa) in 1936 for defending the Republic. They were extrajudicially killed and buried in a grave near the road on 6 November that year, where their bodies were buried until their exhumation in 1980. The family of the shot, civil society and the society La Barranca drove the eviction, and once done, the bodies of the twelve shot were buried in a pantheon of the cemetery of San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
On Sunday, a further step was taken on the road to pay tribute to the victims and recover their memory, with the celebration of the Memorial of the Shot in Labasnd-1936. The event was organized by the Municipality of Labastida and the Institute of Memory, Coexistence and Human Rights Gogoan, in compliance with the order of the Basque Parliament to dignify the grave, in which the Minister of Equality, Justice and Social Policies, Beatriz Artolazabal participated. In the words of the counsellor, the act of dignifying the Labastida site is a symbol of the defence of freedom, democracy and social justice. "The memory of the family has become part of this country's collective and institutional memory: by dignifying the niche we continue to restore its dignity and the dignity of all," he said.
Exercise
The event began at the Casa de Cultura de Labastida with the projection of a video. The video gathered the testimonies of the members of the families of the firing squad and some who promoted eviction, explaining how the bodies recovered and what it was for them to live all that.
Following the video, the mayor of Labastida, Laura Pérez, spoke of the importance of recovering the memory of the Riojanos shot in November 36. Jesús Ángel Cámara, member of the La Barranca Association for the Custody of Historical Memory in La Rioja, and Nicolás Sojo Gómez, grandson of Nicolás Martínez de Sojo shot in 1936, also took the floor after the intervention of the mayor.
Artolazabal also took the word and later distributed to the relatives of the silenced replicas of the sculpture Dignity of the sculptor Iñigo Arrangi.
After giving way to the word, the act went to a border of the Labastida road to Rivas del Tereso, where the sink was located. There, the grandchildren of Martín Ramírez Stackanez and Braulio Antonen, Alejandro Bayona and José Luis Antón, shot, uncovered the plate with the names of the twelve shot. The plaque has been located at the site of the barn and has a QR code with its names, which sends the visitor to a website that collects information about the barn; information can be found on the circumstances of the killings, the process of recovering remains and their subsequent burial.
The event ended with an aurresku of honor and a floral offering.
