More than 1,700 associations, agents and individuals from Amurrio, Aiaraldea and Euskal Herria have joined the campaign of media adherence in Basque. This afternoon they appeared before the City Hall of Amurrio, where they made three specific requests:
- That the City of Amurrio collaborate closely with the agents of the cultural activity, both in the municipality and in the region, supporting their demands and proposals and participating actively in them, to turn them into active agents in the revitalization of the Basque Country.
- Meeting of the Amurrio City Council with Aiaraldea Komunikabideak to resume and normalize the collaboration between the two entities.
- To re-establish the subsidy granted to Aiaraldea Komunikabideak by the City of Amurrio over the last 12 years and to update the amount of the financial assistance, on the same basis as that provided by the other municipalities in the region.
Former handball player Patri Pinedo and Manolo Plaza (Olentzero de Amurrio) have been in charge of reading the demonstration manifesto. The challenge is to bring the policy of the City of Amurrio with respect to the Basque Country “in terms of collaboration”.
“For the genuine revitalization of the Basque Country, the City of Amurrio has to promote collaboration with civil society; with local associations and entities, and at the same time we have to face the enormous challenge facing our language in order to remain alive. We are on time and ready to do so,” they said.
In this regard, they have made a “sincere appeal” to the City of Amurrio to “take the step as soon as possible” to the abovementioned claims. Until the end of summer (21 September), the local institution has made room for this, and they have stressed that they will continue to take further steps if they do not have a positive response.
